Wellness Care

Our doctors at Talbot Animal Hospital provide thorough examinations and consultations.  During examinations, we will assess your pet from nose to tail.  We will discuss any concerns you may have, including allergy/skin, nutrition, behaviour and pain management.  A thorough examination and consultation helps us determine your pet’s overall health status and address any concerns/needs they may have.  We will give recommendations for preventive care such as deworming, vaccination, dietary and fitness management.

Dogs and cats (and rabbits) age faster than people, so significant changes in your pet’s health can happen in a short time.  Based on your furry friend’s examination and age, we may recommend testing to allow us to diagnose diseases and conditions early, when they are easier to treat or manage.  We have a state-of-the art facility to provide testing or treatments that may be required.  Pets are an important part of our lives, and we will work together with you to help keep your furry friend healthy and happy.

Medical Care

Our pets can suffer from many of the medical conditions that humans are affected by.  Some of the more common conditions that we treat include:  ear infections, allergies and other skin conditions, hormonal diseases, heart disease, kidney disease and liver disease.  Our veterinarians and technicians will work with you to formulate a diagnostic and treatment plan that will offer the best possible care for your furry companion.

Surgery

We perform multiple surgeries, including ovariohysterectomies (spays), castrations (neuters), mass removals, gastrointestinal surgeries, bladder surgeries, and some orthopedics.  All of our anesthetized patients receive intravenous (IV fluids), which help us regulate their blood pressure to ensure there is good blood flow to all of their organs.  This ensures a safer anesthetic and helps your pet recover more quickly and comfortably.  Our well-trained and experienced technicians monitor your pet throughout the entire procedure.  We monitor our patient’s heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, EKG, oxygen saturation of blood and body temperature, among other things.  We also ensure that our patients have excellent post-operative pain control.

Emergency/Critical Care

We are open 6 days a week.  We leave openings in our daily schedule to accommodate emergencies.  If your furry friend has an urgent concern, and needs to be seen before our next available appointment, the veterinarian and staff will do their best to accommodate you between scheduled appointments.  We do radiographs and bloodwork in house, and provide hospitalization if needed.  If it is an emergency, and we cannot see your pet right away, we will refer you to the London Regional Veterinary Emergency Clinic, which provides care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Laboratory Services

We can provide many laboratory services in house.  An outside laboratory is used to provide further needs.  Our laboratory services include:

  • Bloodwork

  • Urine Analysis

  • Cytology (for ear and skin infections, as well as fine needle aspirates of masses)

  • Fecal analysis

Digital Radiology

Our new digital radiography system allows us to perform radiographs and provide you with immediate results.

Dentistry (including digital x-ray)

Mouth/dental care is very important for animals, just as it is for us.  Most animals will need a full dental cleaning under general anesthetic at least once in their lifetime.  All of our dentals include full mouth radiographs.  Radiographs are very important to tell us what is going on below the gumline.  Based on our analysis, both above and below the gumline, we can provide the best dental health care for your furry friend.

Pain Management

Pain management is very important to us.  All of our surgical and dental patients receive pain control.  Whether your furry friend has pain from an acute injury or suffers from more chronic pain such as back pain or arthritis, we strive to keep them as comfortable as possible.

Therapeutic Laser

Therapeutic laser can decrease pain and inflammation from many causes, and promotes faster healing.  We have found therapeutic laser to be particularly beneficial in wound healing, tendon/ligament injury and arthritis.   Laser is used post-operatively on all of our spays and neuters.

Hospice and Euthanasia Services

We are here to help you if your furry friend starts to suffer from disease or age-related issues.  We can work together to ensure that your furry loved-one is maintaining a good quality of life.  When the time comes to say good-bye, we provide humane euthanasia.  We work with Gateway Memorial Services to offer the option of private cremation with ashes returned to you.  Gateway offers ceramic paw prints, memorial stones, jewelry and other options to help you remember your cherished companion.

On-line Store
